/r/dating: vent, discuss, learn! Are me and the guy I've been seeing moving to fast?

I've been seeing this person i met online for around a month, seeing each other a little over once a week. He (21m) asked me (18f) if we were exclusive two dates in, and asked me to be his girlfriend 3 dates in. I really like him and we seem super compatible so far so I, of course, said yes. At some point between our 3ed and 4th date he asked if I wanted to go to NYC with him for a few days about 6 weeks out, with his sister and her boyfriend. I also said yes to that because it sounds like a fun time and a good way to test our compatibility early on. He's met my parents and brother, I've met his sister, and I'm about to meet his mom tonight.

Keep in mind we call each other and text a lot, so it's not like we have really only talked like 5 times or something. My sister in particular seems to think this is progressing very fast, and seems concerned about nyc. Is this time line really that strange? Should I have told him no about the trip? I am very new to dating so I don't really have much in terms of reference points! Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Please feel free to ask for more context!!! Thank you!!!

Luxy Blog What Rich Women Want vs. What Rich Men Want: Luxy’s Survey Findings

By Dr. Max Langdon — Senior Digital Dating Analyst. Specializing in the psychological strategy of high-value relationships, market dynamics, and behavioral analysis of elite dating communities. Wealth doesn’t make dating easier. Once financial security is no longer a concern, other things start to matter more, and that’s exactly where what rich women want vs what rich men want starts to diverge. Luxy surveyed over 1,100 verified high-net-worth singles and found clear differences between men and women. Women were far more likely to value a partner who supports their career, while men more often prioritized emotional support and stability. But the two groups aren’t opposites. They agree on more than the stereotypes suggest. Here’s what the data actually shows. Key Takeaways Wealthy women are notably more likely to want a “Career Ally” — a partner who actively contributes to their professional success. Wealthy men more often look for an “Emotional Haven” — a partner who offers calm, support, and understanding. Physical appearance carries more weight for men than for women when picking a partner, though it’s not the deciding factor for either. Trust, honesty, and respect rank as top priorities for both groups — the real common ground gets lost in the “who wants what” headlines. Why Do Rich Men and Women Have Different Dating Priorities? Wealth doesn’t erase the different pressures men and women face when they build a career. It just changes the shape of them. A few forces are usually at play: Career stage and visibility. Many high-earning women are still proving themselves in rooms where they’re outnumbered, so a partner who can open doors or share the load matters more. Social expectations. Successful men are often praised simply for being providers, while successful women are still expected to manage a career and a household, leaving less room to also manage a partner’s ego. Time scarcity. Both work long hours, but how they want to spend their limited free time differs. One group often wants a collaborator, the other wants a break. Life stage. Singles in their 30s tend to weigh career alignment more heavily; those in their 40s and beyond often shift toward emotional steadiness and companionship. None of this means one gender’s approach is “better.” It just means wealthy men and wealthy women are often solving for different problems when they date. What Rich Women Want vs. What Rich Men Want, According to Luxy’s Survey Luxy’s Ambition Paradox report polled more than 1,100 verified high-net-worth members across North America and Western Europe, and asked a simple question: what do you actually need from a partner to keep building the life you want? What Rich Women Prioritize What Rich Men Prioritize A “Career Ally” who actively supports their goals (65%) An “Emotional Haven” that offers calm and support (60%) A partner who understands career sacrifice Someone who doesn’t need constant explanation Mentorship, connections, shared ambition Low-drama, judgment-free companionship Financial independence in a partner Acceptance of unpredictable schedules A few things stand out when you break this down: Career support vs. emotional support. 65% of women said they want a partner who actively contributes to their professional success, compared to 40% of men. On the flip side, 60% of men said they’re looking for an “Emotional Haven” rather than a career collaborator, versus 35% of women. Neither side is wrong — women are often still building influence in competitive fields, so a partner who helps rather than competes is genuinely useful. Men, who more often already have that professional footing, are looking for a different kind of support. Looks matter more to men, but not by much. A UK survey of over 2,000 adults found that 35% of men rated good looks as very important in a partner, compared to just 23% of women. But the same survey found honesty, kindness, and friendship topped the list for both sexes. Attraction opens the door; it rarely decides who stays. Money changes the calculus, but not evenly. Pew Research has found that single women are roughly three times more likely than men to rule out dating someone who earns significantly less than them — a pattern that likely intensifies once a woman is already the higher earner, since matching or exceeding her own status becomes part of what she’s screening for. What Do Wealthy Men and Women Agree On? It’s easy to focus on the differences, but Luxy’s survey and outside research, both point to a shorter list of things almost everyone wants, regardless of gender: Trust. A 2025 YouGov poll found that trust is the single most important factor in a successful relationship, valued by 94% of adults, ahead of every other trait tested. Honesty and respect. The same poll ranked honesty (92%) and respect (91%) close behind — both effectively universal, with no meaningful gender gap. Long-term compatibility over income. Neither rich men nor rich women ranked a partner’s net worth as a top priority once baseline financial stability is assumed. What they actually screen for is whether a partner fits their pace of life. Low tolerance for drama. High earners on both sides consistently described wanting a relationship that adds stability to an already demanding life, not more to manage. The takeaway: Affluent men and affluent women don’t approach dating by completely different rules. They’re applying the same core values, including trust, honesty, respect, to two different sets of daily pressures. What Are the Biggest Myths About Wealthy Singles? A few stereotypes about wealthy daters keep circulating. The data tells a different story. “Rich people only care about money.” In reality, income was rarely cited as a top filter once a baseline was met. Career alignment and emotional support mattered far more. “Rich women only want status and men who can keep up financially.” The Career Ally preference isn’t about a bigger bank account, it’s about a partner who actively invests in her success, which is a very different ask. “Rich men only want beauty.” Even in the survey where looks mattered more to men (35% vs. 23%), honesty and kindness still ranked above appearance for both sexes. “Power couples are relationship goals.” Chasing the “power couple” image is actually a common source of pressure and burnout among high achievers, not the win it looks like from the outside. How Can You Build a Strong Relationship With a Wealthy Partner? If you’re dating or trying to date successful people, the survey data suggests a few practical adjustments: Don’t lead with wealth. It rarely moves the needle once both people are already financially comfortable. Show, don’t just say, you’re invested in their success. For high-achieving women especially, active support beats passive admiration. Respect their schedule before you critique it. Busy schedules aren’t a character flaw. They’re the reality of the lives they’ve built. Focus on compatibility signals, not status signals. Shared pace of life, communication style, and reliability predict long-term fit far better than a title or a zip code. Conclusion High-net-worth men and high-net-worth women aren’t as different as the stereotypes suggest. Where a “Career Ally” and an “Emotional Haven” split along gender lines, trust, honesty, and long-term compatibility stay constant across both. Wealth changes the lifestyle around dating — the restaurants, the schedules, the pace — but it doesn’t change what actually makes a relationship work. Luxy’s survey found rich women are most likely to want a “Career Ally” — a partner who actively supports their professional goals — along with financial independence and emotional maturity. Q2: What do rich men value most in relationships? Rich men more often prioritize an “Emotional Haven”: a low-drama partner who offers understanding and stability outside of work. Q3: Do wealthy singles care more about money or compatibility? Compatibility. Once a baseline of financial stability exists, income stops being the deciding factor for either gender — shared values and communication matter more. Q4: Are rich women more selective than rich men? Not necessarily more selective overall, but their criteria often lean more heavily toward career alignment, while men’s criteria lean toward emotional support. Q5: Does income matter when dating wealthy singles? It matters less than assumed. Research shows women are more likely than men to rule out a lower-earning partner, but for both genders, trust and honesty outweigh income once financial stability is established.
